Two Aesthetics, Two Approaches

StudyWithMe.io creates a full-screen study environment with ambient backgrounds and lofi aesthetics. It’s designed to be the main thing on your screen — a dedicated study space that sets the mood with visual and audio ambiance.

Mac Pet takes the opposite approach: it stays small and out of the way in your menu bar, letting you use your screen for actual work. The aesthetic is pixel art — retro, Tamagotchi-inspired, and charming rather than ambient. The focus is on the productivity mechanics (Pomodoro timer, streaks) rather than creating a visual environment.

These different philosophies mean they serve different study styles. If you want your screen to be a study space, StudyWithMe excels. If you want your screen for actual study material with a subtle timer companion, Mac Pet is the better fit.

Choose Mac Pet If...

• You need your screen for study materials, not the timer
• You prefer pixel art / retro aesthetics over lofi
• You want a native Mac app that works offline
• You like having a virtual companion during study sessions
• You want activity streak tracking for consistency
• You value a timer that’s visible even while reading PDFs or coding

Choose StudyWithMe If...

• You want a full-screen ambient study environment
• You like lofi aesthetics and background audio
• You want a free, zero-commitment tool
• You work across multiple operating systems
• You study primarily from physical materials (not on-screen)
